Now this is a project that anyone can do as long as you know how to thread the bobbin on your machine. I found the idea for this garland on pinterest, of course.

The most time consuming part of this project was cutting out the felt hearts. I used my photoshop elements custom shape tool (you could use any program or free clip art from the web) to make a 2.5 x 2.5 inch heart shape that I used as my pattern and then printed the shape on cardstock. I just held the pattern piece to the felt as I cut out each individual heart (no pinning required). My garland required 58 hearts to drape my china cabinet. I then placed them in a large stack in the color pattern that I wanted to sew them.

I used a straight stitch with the length setting at 1.5. I pulled the beginning threads to at least a foot (so I would have enough thread to tie the banner to a banister or nail in the wall) and then lowered my presser foot and started my stitches. Since I had my stack of hearts in color order, it was so easy just to pick up the next heart and then feed it under the presser foot touching the previous heart as it is fed through. I then backstitched where each heart was sewn to the previous one just to give a little more security between the hearts. The great thing about this project is that if you make the banner too long, you can easily cut off the excess hearts or easily add more without affecting what you have previously sewn.
